The Second Installment of the Deep Dive Series Inspires the Women of Baltimore

On March 22, 2018, The Port, the entertainment division of the Port Covington Development Team, presented Deep Dive: The Future Is Female. The Deep Dive Series was launched to create open conversations and networking opportunities among Baltimore’s future leaders. This second installment of the Deep Dive Series gathered a powerhouse panel of six women from various industries, who utilized their wide range of expertise to provide unique perspectives on a diverse set of topics. The room was full of over 200 people, both women and men, who were eager to discuss issues that face us all with a varied group of successful businesswomen at all stages of their careers. The event began with cocktails, music from DJ Abby Hopper and a live, acoustic performance by Ellen Cherry.

After guests had a chance to network and begin making connections, the discussion began. The panelists for the evening included:

Krystal Mack, a self-taught pastry chef, entrepreneur and owner of 3 Wheels Food Group, BLK//SUGAR, KarmaPop Ice Pops, and the PieCycle
Elizabeth Alexander, Senior Managing Director of FTI Consulting, and former Press Secretary & Chief Spokesperson for Vice President Joe Biden
Khalilah Harris, founding co-chair of Coalition of Black Leaders in Education and Fights and former Deputy Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans
Laura Rankin, founder of Epoch Consulting and former Head of Brand Experience & Special Projects for sweetgreen
Audrey Van De Castle, the first Makerspace Manager for Stanley Black & Decker and advisory board member for A Workshop Of Our Own
The host and moderator of the panel was Amy Larkin, the Vice President of Culture at Under Armour.

Before taking questions from the audience, the panelists used their personal life experiences to discuss their proudest moments, being successful in male-dominated industries, the importance of a strong network, and the art of blending work and life.

The Deep Dive Series closed with a 30-minute question and answer session with the audience asking, among other questions, for advice on: how to manage time, advocating for yourself and being authentic in professional relationships. Following the panel discussion, attendees were encouraged to meet each other, continue the conversation and make lasting connections.

Thank you to all who attended and please keep an eye on the Port Covington website and The Port’s Facebook Page for information on the next event in the Deep Dive Series.
