For the third year, The Baltimore Station hosted their annual Stars Stripes & Chow Chili Cook-Off, and this year it was held at City Garage in Port Covington. Over 350 people attended the fundraiser for an afternoon of food and fun as local businesses competed in a chili cook-off competition to raise money for veterans and homeless men in Baltimore. The Baltimore Station is an innovative, therapeutic residential treatment program that supports veterans and others who are “transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness to self-sufficiency.”
Kim Callari, Director of Development & Communications for The Baltimore Station said, “The third annual Stars, Stipes and Chow Chili Edition was a huge success! We are especially thrilled that we raised over $64,000, a 22% increase from last year, for the men in our program who are working hard every day to turn their lives around. We want to thank all of our corporate partners, sponsors, volunteers and teams for helping to make the event a success.”
Throughout the day, teams competed to win the “Best Chili Award,” chosen by a panel of judges, as well as the “People’s Choice Award” and “Best Decorated Booth Award” chosen by guests at the event. The Maryland Multi-Housing Association (MMHA) and Zeffert & Gold joined forces and took home the “Best Chili Award.” The Baltimore Station was the fan favorite winning “People’s Choice Award” for the second year in a row, while Praxis Engineering won “Best Decorated Booth.”
In addition to unlimited chili samples, guests enjoyed food from Mission BBQ, a beer and wine bar from City Limits, as well as a kid’s zone with music and more! The most popular attractions were the caricaturists, and games like corn hole and giant Jenga.
